Why did you first decide to join us on pilgrimage or virtual pilgrimage?
I first met the leadership of NALV on the Franciscan University Campus. They were recruiting students for a wounded warrior pilgrimage to take place in May of 2013. I knew they needed nurses and began to think about serving in Lourdes. I attended a virtual pilgrimage that evening, and I was hooked. I volunteered to be the advance team nurse. This first pilgrimage was such a moving experience for me that I decided I would come back every year as long as I was able to serve.
What has been your favorite aspect of service?
Everything. Every one of the volunteers has one purpose, to serve Jesus and our Blessed Mother in whatever way they are asked.
Favorite memory of Lourdes?
I have so many favorite memories no one memory stands out. God has used me in so many ways on pilgrimage. Maybe if I had to pick one… The very first time I set foot in Lourdes, the first moment, I was overcome with a sense of holiness. I knew I had been called to a very special place. I have never been disappointed.
When you think of Lourdes, what do you think of?
The humility of Bernadette, God’s Mercy, forgiveness, and our Lady. And so many memories.
How has service with Lourdes Volunteers influenced your faith / daily life?
I talk about Lourdes all the time, to students at Franciscan University, friends, parents of students, just about anyone.
What would you tell someone considering pilgrimage with Lourdes Volunteers?
Just do it. You will never regret it. Lourdes pilgrimage is life-changing. I would encourage them in any way I can.
In what ways do you hope to continue expressing the Message of Lourdes?
I hope to continue to serve.
Any else you wish to add?
There is going to be a virtual pilgrimage near me in one month, I can’t wait!
