History of Virtual Pilgrimage

Lourdes Virtual Pilgrimage was inspired in a grace within the mission of Our Lady of Lourdes Hospitality North American Volunteers early in 2002.  In the fall of 2002, three pilgrims from Kansas City, KS, met the Foundress of Lourdes Volunteers in Lourdes and Nevers, France.  They agreed to be the first Host Team to bring the grace of Lourdes back home to their parish community.  The Pastor of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Overland Park, Kansas, was born on the Feast Day of Our Lady of Lourdes.  With his birthright devotion, he agreed to allow what was to be the first-ever Lourdes Virtual Pilgrimage Experience.  Months of prayer, persistence and planning were required.  After two years of preparation, the first Lourdes Virtual Pilgrimage was offered in the fall of 2004 in Kansas, the heartland of America.

115,000 “pilgrims” have experienced Lourdes Virtual Pilgrimage
since 2004 in 36 states, 13 Native American Nations
and 14 countries on 4 continents

Lourdes Virtual Pilgrimage was inspired, in a grace, with the knowledge that it must be self-sustaining.  The free-will donation of the first Lourdes Virtual Pilgrimage exactly covered the costs confirming the practical reality.

Lourdes Virtual Pilgrimage Guides are hosted in private homes and escorted to Virtual Pilgrimages to avoid hotel and car rental expenses.  They receive no payment, monies or donations.  The costs of travel, printing materials, shipping and bottling Lourdes Water is covered solely by the free-will donations.  Collections are not taken at schools nor in prisons.

The host locations are large urban churches to small country parishes.  Attendance ranges from small groups to 2,500 “pilgrims” or more.
